Spring has sprung, and what better way to celebrate the season of growth than with some fresh new produce? We have a few favorites this season that we think you’ll love:
RHUBARB. April is the month of rhubarb, and we are so glad it is finally here. Rhubarb is a leafy, red stalk known for its distinctly tart flavor, but, when combined with sugar, it is great for a sweet spring treat. Whether you are a long-time lover of this unique produce, or completely new to it, this season brings promises of delicious, crumbling rhubarb pie and flavorful, homemade rhubarb jam.
BLUEBERRY. One of our favorite things about spring is that these plump, mouth-wateringly sweet berries have finally returned. Your blueberry craving can again be fulfilled by warm blueberry muffins and seasonal spring salads, topped with juicy blueberries and feta cheese. This is one fruit that never goes out of style, but does go out of season, so get them while they are here.
ASPARAGUS. At the peak of its season in April, asparagus is a great spring vegetable to pair with almost any meal. Not only do we love the savory flavor that comes from roasting it in garlic and lemon juice, but we also cannot get over its awesome health benefits. Asparagus is loaded with nutrients and is an excellent source of fiber, vitamins and minerals, which makes it the perfect spring veggie the whole family can enjoy.
Whether you want to impress your friends with a sweet spring desert or are celebrating the return of a seasonal favorite, SLO County Farmers’ Market has what you need to satisfy your spring-time cravings.
